ABOUT HISTORY SHIMAZU KENJI AUSTRALIA GALLERY ENQUIRIES

Goshu Kyodensho Chikuosha

Yagyu Shingan ryu was introduced and demonstrated in Australia in 1988. It was a historical event for Australia when the Yagyu Shingan ryu Heihojutsu Kyodensho ‘Chikuosha' 竹翁舎 was officially established outside Japan. Since then Shimazu Kenji has conducted several public seminars on the classical martial arts of Japan, and personal training in Yagyu Shingan ryu for his student Philip Hinshelwood who directs the Yagyu Shingan ryu Chikuosha in Australia. During Shimazu Kenji's visits to Australia he has also taught and initiated a small group of (currently 13) dedicated Australian's into the tradition, who make a pledge to the tradition, it's ancestors and their teacher. There is a direct link between the Australia branch and Sweden branch of Per Eriksson who studied the tradition in Australia under Philip Hinshelwood.

The Australia Shibu is located at Gunnedah (John Hinshelwood) and the authorised Australia branch study groups are located in Tamworth (John Mirow), Sydney (Andrew Melito) and Singapore (TK Chua) ....(see gallery). Vacancies are limited following an interview, and entrance into the tradition is by invitation only. Following the entrance/probation period the prospective monjin is initiated into the tradition. Demonstration of the tradition is available on request. Please direct all inquires to Philip Hinshelwood at philip.shinganryu@gmail.com
